Principal

Principal Rachael Garcia

Rachael Garcia became Principal of Colonial School in July 2021. She previously served as principal of P.S. 173 in Manhattan and has extensive experience in elementary education. Prior to becoming principal of P.S. 173, she was assistant principal and Literacy Coach at P.S. 555: Mount Eden Children’s Academy where she developed the K-5 literacy curriculum and supervised the special education program, among other responsibilities. Ms. Garcia also served as a teacher for 11 years, during which time she taught kindergarten, 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade at P.S. 96, P.S. 196 and P.S. 555. 

Ms. Garcia holds a Master’s of School Administration and Supervision from Mercy College and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Iona College and is currently completing a Master’s in Progressive Leadership from Bank Street College.
